AUDREY SWEET Audrey Edmondson Sweet went to be with her Lord on Sunday evening, June 3rd.
She passed away in her home in Eureka and was lovingly attended to during recent weeks by her husband, children, sister and nieces. Of particular importance was the care given Audrey by her daughters, Beth and Mary Sue, and her nieces, Elizabeth and Molly.
Audrey was born on August 6, 1930 in San Diego, CA. She and Jim, her husband of over seventy years, were married on Christmas Day of 1947, shortly after Jim's discharge from the Army Air Corps. They raised five children as they moved from the family dairy ranch near Bandon, Oregon to Ukiah and then to several communities in Del Norte County, finally ending up in Eureka in 1964.
Audrey loved and reverenced God and the Lord Jesus Christ and relished his Word. She also enjoyed classical music, literature, and language in general. Her family moved around a lot during her childhood years and she did not have the opportunity to graduate from high school. However, she ultimately graduated from College of the Redwoods, majoring in English. Audrey also developed an interest in the San Francisco 49ers, following them avidly since the mid 1990's. Audrey worked for many years at the Humboldt County Sheriff's Dept. In earlier years she worked in farming, dairy ranching, and even in a veneer mill.
Audrey is survived by her husband, Jim; five adult children, Dan Sweet, Jesse Sweet (Kim), Mary Sue Prangley (John), Beth D'Ambra (Steve) and Wendy Ward; her sister, Judith Paseman; nieces Elizabeth Harvey and Molly Newman; sister-in-law, Ann Edmondson; nephews Walker Edmondson and Casey Edmondson; cousin Linda Alexander. Audrey was preceded in death by her brother Bill Edmondson. She was proud to be the matriarch of a family that includes many grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
