George Bermudez

George Bermudez passed away May 7, 2018, at home in Eureka at the age of 92. Born Nov. 5, 1925, he was a lifelong resident of Eureka.

Mr. Bermudez was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, and a past member of Downtown Kiwanis Club and the Showers Rock Hunting Club.  He served in the U. S. Maritime Service as a Junior Engineer in the Pacific Theatre.  He had owned the Humboldt Carpet Service for several years and before his retirement in 1986 had worked for the Boysen/Ameritone  Paint Corp. as carpet manager for 30 years.

He loved spending time with his family and was very proud of his three children and six grandchildren.  He enjoyed visiting his grandchildren in Sacramento and Los Angeles.  He loved attending all the sports and school events of his grandsons in Eureka.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and enjoyed all the family get togethers.  George and his wife, Jane, enjoyed all their time at their summer home at Ruth.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Everyone was always welcome at their place.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jane of 67 years; a son Mark and his wife Diana Bermudez of La Verne; daughter Penny and her husband Tim Hickey of Eureka and daughter Carolyn Bermudez and husband Craig Owens of Carmichael. Six grandchildren: Jason and wife Becky and Matt Hickey, Haley, Kelsey, Brooke and Jayme Bermudez.  Four great grandchildren: Katie, Ryan, Lizzy and Charlotte Hickey. Sisters- in-law Lois Hunt of Fortuna, Janice Belluomini and her husband Raphael of Clayton and Pat Bermuda of Eureka and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  George was preceded in death by his mother Bessie Bermudez, his brother Dick and brother-in-law Jim Hunt.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Christ Episcopal Church, 15th & H Sts., Eureka at 1pm, Monday, May 14.  Officiated by Reverend Dr. Daniel London.
