Jam Bugbee Obituary

JAMES JIM WILLIAM BUGBEE James "Jim" William Bugbee died peacefully on August 10, 2018, at his home in Eureka surrounded by his family. Born in the old St. Joseph's Hospital in Eureka on June 28, 1926, to Clark and Mae Bugbee, he was raised in Ferndale, California. He attended Grizzly Bluff School and graduated from Ferndale High School in 1944. He married Marie Martin in 1949, and they moved to Eureka, where they raised their family and remained ever since. He had strong ties to his birthplace, and his large extended family. He knew the best places to fish and hunt, knew every back road, and had a story for every person and place. We have many happy memories of time with family in Petrolia and at the cabin in Price Creek. He proudly served in the US Navy during World War II and was a longtime member of St. Bernard's Catholic parish and the Knights of Columbus. He was a flower gardener, a hard worker, a card player, a singer and a storyteller. He worked as a sales manager most of his life, selling heavy equipment all over northern California. He never got tired of meeting new people and learning new things. It was important to him to have a positive attitude and he loved to make people laugh. When he was going for daily radiation treatments, he worried that it was a sad and serious place, so every day he tried to have a funny story or joke to share with the staff. His special gift was for the children in his life. He had a unique bond with each of them. He loved them, and they adored him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Marie, his brother and sister (and lifelong friends) Bob Bugbee and Joyce Coppini, his children Cathy Cormier (Gary), Bill Bugbee (Patty), Dave Bugbee (Kathie), Patti Carlson, Ann Farley (Ken), and Dan Bugbee, his grandchildren Angela Beeman, Jason Farley, Haley Boynton, Alisa McClurg, Marci Schultz, Holly Gleaton, Lindsey Kleiner, Brian Cormier, Jessie Bugbee, Katie Johnson, Emily Owens, Luke Bugbee, Tess Fournier, Cheyne Gerbatz, Kana Bugbee, Britton Bugbee, Felicia Costa and Sarah Carlson, 34 great-grandchildren (too many to name, but each one precious to him) and many more treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is also survived by the members of his wife's family, whom he loved as his own, especially his sister-in-law Jane Giulieri and his brother-in-law Bob Martin and his wife Doris. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Mae Bugbee, his brothers Adrian and Jack Bugbee, his sister Mary Jorgenson, and his great grandson Brydon Becksted. There will be visitation at Sanders Funeral Home on Thursday, August 23 from 6 to 7 pm, with the rosary at 7 pm. The funeral will be on Friday, August 24th at 10 am at St Bernard's Catholic Church, in Eureka, immediately followed by a reception at the parish hall.
