LeAna Schnell Obituary

LeAna J. (Starr) Schnell, loving wife, mother and grandmother went to be with her Heavenly Father on March 5, 2018, at age 86.

She was born in Garberville on October 20, 1931 to William and Marjorie (Hull) Starr. As a teenager, LeAna lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she met her lifelong love, Eugene A. Schnell Jr. They were married July 1950 and had five children. The family moved to Eureka in 1955.

LeAna was always enthusiastically involved in all of her childrens’ interests in sports, scouting, music and dance, various school activities and many other kid endeavors, and was at one time president of the PTA. She herself loved watching the San Francisco Giants. Her time spent with adults included bowling, traveling, casino gaming and many fierce but friendly pinochle marathons. She was also very active in Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and the Elks Emblem Club.

She is preceded in death by son Gary A. Schnell, and is survived by her husband of 68 years and their children: Laura Anderson of Eugene Oregon, Ruth Schnell of Eureka, Eugene D. Schnell of Eureka, and Barbara Principe (Luis) of Las Vegas, Nevada and her bonus daughter, Susan Powell. Grandchildren: Sarah, Kate, Marggie, AnaLee, Robert, and Delaney. LeAna also leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She will be lovingly missed and will be forever in our hearts.
