Marian Genevieve Laws

She was a longtime resident of the community and has been living at Frye's Care Home. Born and raised on a farm in Shelly, Minnesota as the fifth and only daughter in a family of eight children, her parents were Selmer and Clara Oistad. Leaving Minnesota after graduating from high school, she ventured "out west" to San Francisco.

Nicknamed "Skip" by her future husband, Budd Thomas. They married and made their home in Eureka. They had three children which was her proudest accomplishment and her greatest joy. Skip loved being a part of the medical community at General Hospital as director of volunteers working with patients. Enjoyed many years with her sisters as a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She had many friends from different walks of life and cherished each one.

Later in life she married Howard Laws and shared 22 years. Her family adored Grandma Skip. Handmade birthday cards recognized each of the great-grandchildren and Grandma's cookies were a specialty. Creating beautiful stitchery, enjoying rose gardening and as an avid fan of the Warriors and Giants brought her pleasure. We all shared in her wonderful sense of humor and love of music. A very strong faith in God guided her life.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by Jerry & Alona Thomas, Mike & Patty Thomas, Gary Todoroff, Aaron & Rita Thomas, Ryan and Laura Todoroff, John Todoroff, Marti Thomas, Andy & Rachel Thomas, Nathan & Christine Todoroff, and Clara Todoroff. Her great-grandchildren; Marielle Thomas, Elizabeth Harkey, Joseph Thomas, Veronica Todoroff, Emma Harkey and Julia Thomas. Her brother Rod Oistad and wife Babs. Her many family members in Minnesota. She is preceded in death by Budd Thomas, Howard Laws and her beloved daughter Joanne Todoroff.

The 10am service for Marion will be held on March 21, 2018 at Sanders Funeral Home, 1835 E ST., Eureka, CA.
