Alek McConnell Obituary

Alek Jay McConnell was welcomed into this world on October 16, 1993, to Vickie Gensaw and Brett McConnell. Being a Yurok tribal member, he lived here in Humboldt County his entire life.

Alek was the kind of person that would do anything for the people he loved. He would give you the shirt off his back in a snowstorm if you said you were cold. If you needed help with anything, no matter what it was, all you had to do was call him and he would be there.

Empathy was one of Alek's traits, he always thought of other people before he thought of himself. The love he gave was pure and genuine. His smile would always brighten even the darkest of days. His upbeat and friendly personality always made his presence welcome. No matter where Alek was, if there were children around, the children were always thought of first. His acts of kindness touched the hearts and lives of many. Everyone who was blessed to have had Alek in their lives will love him always and keep his memory alive forever. Our hearts are broken, and he will be greatly missed.

Alek is preceded in death by his grandparents; Raymond Gensaw Sr., Robert & Darlene McConnell, and his uncles; Craig McConnell, Everett “Lee” Crum, Raymond Gensaw Jr., Roy Gensaw, and his aunt Margaret Gensaw.Alek is survived by his parents, Brett McConnell & Vickie Gensaw, and his siblings Crystal, Jayden, and Tawny McConnell.Casey, Cody, and Raylynn Robinson.

Alek also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. There are too many to name so please don’t be offended if your name is not mentioned. You know what you meant to Alek.

A very special thanks to the following people who were a huge part of Alek’s life and meant so much to him: Amy Simpson and Frank Diaz, who were parents to him when he needed them, and the many siblings he had in their home. Rhonda Vanbiber, the Lindstroms, and so many others he considered family and who helped him on his journey, while we were blessed to have him here. Many thanks and may his light always shine down on you.

A Celebration of Alek’s life will be held at Redwood Acres at 12:00 pm on January 28th. All friends and family of Alek are welcome to attend. It will be a potluck, so if you are able, please bring a dish
