On September 30th, 2023 Charlotte E. Greenwood passed peacefully surrounded by her family in Elk Grove, CA at the Carlton Senior Living Residence. She lived a full, vibrant 87 years of life as a beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many.
Charlotte was born August 8th, 1936 in Eureka, CA to parents Warren Mason and Bertha Mason. She attended Fieldbook Elementary and Arcata Union High School where she graduated in the class of 1954. She went on to attend Humboldt State University where she met the love of her life William Greenwood. The two were married on August 9th, 1957 in Arcata, CA, and shared 39 years of marriage.
Charlotte is survived by her brother Gary Mason, her daughter Kelli Novak (Doug) and son Todd Greenwood (Claire), as well as 4 grandchildren Ashleigh Adams (Chad), Scott Greenwood (Nicole), Amanda Stayton, and Melanie Sinclair (Kyle). She also had the opportunity to meet and enjoy time with 3 great-grandchildren Carson (4) and Everett (2) Adams and her name’s sake, Charlotte (1) Sinclair. She was also a loving aunt to Karen Hooven (Art), Linda Puzz, Donna Corning, Jackie Schirmann, Diane Mason Della, John Mason, and all of their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William Greenwood and siblings, Jim Mason, Tim Mason, Dave Mason, Jack Mason, and Ruth Ford.
Charlotte lived in Eureka, CA for most of her life. She generously volunteered her time at St. Joseph’s Hospital for over 20 years. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 50 years and a member of the Ingomar Club and Elks Club. In 2019 after her great-grandson Carson was born, she decided to make the move to Wilton, CA to be closer to family. In 2021, she moved into the Carlton Senior Living Residence in Elk Grove, CA where her family and friends visited frequently until her passing.
She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and a wonderful friend to many. She was affectionately known as “Nani” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very proud to see all four of her grandchildren graduate from college. Charlotte had a love for travel, seeing movies with friends, going dancing, and spending time with family.
She shared many notable memories with her family including her annual Mother’s Day trip, spending time at her Tahoe home, taking her family to Maui, and many New Year’s celebrations spent on the central coast in wine country.
Her kind and generous nature, brilliant sense of humor, and forever young spirit will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by the lucky ones who knew and loved her.
A private graveside service was held on October 28th, 2023 at Ocean View Cemetery in Eureka, CA where she was laid to rest next to her late husband. Her family is at peace knowing that they are finally together again.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for spring 2024.
