Patricia Vance Obituary

Patricia Ann Vance passed away in Eureka on November 17, 2023, at the age of 84.

She was born in Eureka, CA on June 6, 1939 to Fay L. and Vera Nielsen Perske. On July 29, 1956, she married Forrest W. Vance, her high school sweetheart. They were married for 67 years. They raised their family in Eureka.

The most special times were the annual family vacations. Patricia would research and plan trips all over the country. She and Forrest continued traveling until they had seen everything they wanted to see.

Patricia served for 25 years as a Pink Lady at St. Joseph's Hospital. Patricia had a tremendous love for her extended family. She was known for her memory and knew all the family history and passed it down. She was also the keeper of childhood toys and treasures, both from her generation and then her children's. Her nieces loved going to Auntie Pat's and playing with the wonderful things that came out of the attic, including a doll cradle and dollhouse that their grandfather built. The girls were entertained for years, as they "graduated " to new treasures. When her grandchildren came along, they too enjoyed the special foods Gram made for them and songs on the record player. She enjoyed teaching them the words as they danced around the living room. She taught all the children "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas". Her beloved "Maida" books have been passed down to the fourth generation!

Patricia and Forrest also enjoyed taking their nieces and later their grandchildren to a motel with a swimming pool, which was a special treat! They passed along their love of Canasta. She was a stickler for the rules and they were a formidable team when playing pairs. Now new generations enjoy the family game.

Patricia's love and devotion to her family will be missed. She is survived by her husband Forrest Vance; siblings Pamela Kay Hughes, Richard David (Jane) Perske, and Peggy Agnes (Steven) Lynch; children Kathleen (Richard) Vaara and Michael (Kathy) Vance; grandchildren Mallory Vance and Kellen (Casie) Vance; great-grandchildren Tess and Harriet Vance; her nieces Venessa (James) Shields, Naomi (Scott) Yates, and Sarah (Matej Znidarcic) Perske. A private service was held for the family.
